Reading your grey
How much grey you have and where it sits changes the formula. Grey at the temples behaves differently from grey scattered through the crown.
Mixing for your base
Your existing colour is the starting point, so the formula is mixed against it rather than applied over it and hoped for.
Tone against skin
The same brown reads warm on one person and flat on another. Tone gets chosen for you, not for the photo you brought.
Glazing
A glaze or toner added to a colour service refreshes tone and adds shine for $30.

A root retouch with a style is around ninety minutes to two hours. With a cut, closer to two and a half.

Look at where you are
Your grey percentage, previous colour and how much has faded all get assessed before anything is mixed.

Mix
The formula is mixed by hand for your head, in Wella colour.

Apply
Root first where coverage is needed, then through the lengths only if they need refreshing — repeatedly colouring lengths that do not need it is what makes hair go flat and muddy.

Process and rinse
Developed, rinsed and glazed if you are adding tone.

Cut into the new colour if booked, then styled.

Maria quotes every price in the chair once she has seen and felt your hair. Length, density and condition all move the number, and she would rather be accurate than cheap over the phone.

- 05Rebook at four to six weeks if you are covering grey.
Aftercare
Making it last.
- Sulphate-free shampoo — colour fades fastest in the first two weeks.
- Cool water when you rinse.
- Skip washing the day after your appointment if you can.
- A $30 glaze with your next service refreshes tone between full colours.
- Do not put box colour over professional colour. It is the hardest thing to correct.

At Maria's studio a base or root colour starts at $80, a colour retouch with a style at $125, and a root retouch with a cut and style at $160. A glaze added to another colour service is $30.
Most people covering grey come back every four to six weeks. If your grey is minimal or your colour is close to your natural, you can stretch it further.
